Bob Watson sailed up a storm to take Line Honours. Well deserved. And he didn't change class of boat part way through the day.
.
Graham Alcock has only just got Tonga out of his sytem, and he only just got second place from Bob Dare.
.
Bob Tuohy has a slight drag problem with his IOM. Too many cobwebs. Still, not a bad result.
.
I sailed Race One with the Ragazza. During Race Two the jib boom pivot cord broke and the jib tried wrapping itself around the mainsail. Took ages to get it back in. Re-entered the water for Race Four and the jib lead parted from the jib boom. After repairs I handed the tiller over to Richrd (?) from SSS Brisbane. I figured the Ragazza wasn't happy having me sailing it that day.
.
Graham Edwards bummed out with a winch that spat the dummy. It's a pity, you did well in the one race that you finished.
.
.
Graham Alcock returned to the top step of the podium on Corrected Time. Good one Graham!
.
Bob Dare has been sailing quite well lately. On this occasion a mere three points separated him from the top position. Onya Bob!
.
Bob Tuohy's antique IOM took third place from Bob Watson's flying Focus on count-back.
.
There are no results in Race Two because I was too busy trying to recover my wayward Ragazza to get times. Tough.
.
.
There are only minor changes to the Correction factors except for Bob Dare who is now right up there. I wonder how long he can stay there?

VISITORS
|
![]() |
Over the last month we have had visitors .......... from Queensland!!!! Who knew that Banana Benders would head South for the Winter?
.
The first was the Commodore of the Moreton Radio Yacht Squadron where the bias is definitely on racing IOMs and DF95s. Unfortunately I didn't get his name but he sure could make a Focus boogie. Apparently he is a dab hand with the IOMs, various titles etc. It was good to see him.
.

.
The second was Richard (?) from the Triple S Model Boat Group where things are definitely social based sailing. I let Richard loose on the Ragazza and we threw him into the racing. We also had to explain some of the Rules of the Road. This shows the draw-backs of purely social sailing - you don't learn the rules. Richard came back on a Saturday for a second dose and took to the water with Wizzle Wozzle. The first A Class that he had ever seen. Did alright too until he had to leave to appease SWMBO. Apparently he is now hooked on racing and A Class. Good to see you too Richard.

Bob Tuohy is threatening to bring out his antique IOM. Bob Watson raised the ante with his Focus. I suppose I had better bring the Ragazza. No doubt there will be the usual delinquents with a bunch of Foci. Get ready to rumble.

Still windy, but I got the start line fixed. We had a pretty good breeze coming down the gully from the west. There was one quirk with it, the far side of the dam appeared to be getting the breeze. The water showed all of the usual signs but boats got over there and were becalmed. Bizarre.
.
Despite it being an A Class day there were only three on site. Bob Watson had a rudder servo problem and so we finished up with a sort of match race between David Martin and myself. Watto's day was not totally wasted. He did a damned good job as the Master Chef. Thanks Bob.
.
Congratulations to David for taking out a well deserved Line Honours win in Condor of Paris Creek.
.
Wizzle Wozzle and I managed to get a couple of races off of him, and there was at least one where I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory through bad decisions. I had David so worried that he started making adjustments. My story and I'm sticking to it.
.
.
David has been heard to say 'you can't beat the handicapper'. How prophetic. I won but not by much. And it pushed my Correction Factor from 0.80 to 0.84.
.
There are no Corrected Times for Race 5 due to a finger fault on my behalf. Comes from trying to race and score at the same time.
.
.
Throwing all of the 'big' boats together on their own course gave David Martin another Line Honours win. Good to see the A Class up there..
.
John Lykke sailed well for second place after having boat problems. It turned out to be the satellite receiver hanging off of his main receiver. Luckily I had the trailer there and a new satellite got John back on the go.
.
If I had put off fixing John's boat for one more race I should have taken second place from him. Not to worry.
.
Bob Tuohy had some navigation errors in the earlier races and discovered Australia. Or the part around the edge of the dam at any rate. Don't try to tail gate the A Class boats with a 10 Rater.
.
.
Corrected Time A Class 1 2 finish. How good is that ? Well done David.
.
John Lykke took third spot with Bob Tuohy not far behind.
.
.
I only have Line Honours for the Foci fleet. There's only so much I can do while competing myself.
.
Congratulations to Bob Dare for being the dux of the class.
.
Graham Alcock was a close second.
,
David Hyde started out very well with a third and two seconds before lunch. He then ran another second after lunch. And then things started going pear-shaped. Was it the sausages weighing him down? Or was it the water in his boat? Probably the water. Then the battery complained about getting wet by sending out a smoke signal, It was sort of like the China Syndrome waiting for the nuclear pike to melt its' way out of the bottom of the boat. The joys of boating!
.
Geoff Smith had a fairly ordinary day but managed to stay right until the end, for a change. Post-racing he was doing a bit of free-style sailing when I swapped boats with him. I found the Focus to be slightly overpowered in the conditions. Geoff Smith came up with the quote of the day while sailing Wizzle Wozzle - 'I can see myself sailing one of these.' A Class boats are addictive.

I don't have a great deal to report from here. The wind was strong enough that I decided not to try rowing out to fix the start line.
.
Bob Tuohy and David Martin were busy cleaning up Stan's fallen down trees. There were a cople of Foci there but no-one gave me a result.
.
No doubt Bob Dare has a huge report compiled and ready to send to me.

This Saturday was a utility day. Probably a good thing because there was not a lot of breeze.
.
The errant start line buoy that gave us some very interesting starts/finishes the other week was moved back to within 1/1000 th of a kilometer (give or take a meter or two) of where it should be. Unfortunately when I went to apply similar precision to the far end of the start line the ground tackle disappeared into the murky depths. Ah well, something to do on Wednesday.
.
Philip (I no longer work in an office) Scapens had a winch problem that I repaired by the laying on of hands. We also replaced his knicker elastic and he was right to go again.
.
Bob Watson did not break a mast!!!
.
David Martin sampled a bottle of wine that we found in the caravan. In the time honoured method of wine-tasting, he took a sip, contemplated it and then spat it out. Quite a considerable distance. Apparently it didn't suit his palate.
.
On the way out I went to get some fire-wood and my son's chainsaw nearly became a permanent fixture in a gum tree. But that's another story.
ANZAC DAY 25 APR 2018
|
![]() |
There will be sailing.
.
Unfortunately I could not make it. I spent the day in contemplation as to which end of my body could best use the dunny. I got out of bed at 7PM and was back there at 9PM.
.
Fortunately Bob Dare was there to give a sailing report -
.
"And there Was Sailing, But only 4 Boats.
But also the Best Weather Conditions I Have Seen"
.
Well done Bob, a concise and in depth discourse on the day's activities. Some of Bob's other feats of journalism include his review of the new Ford Mustang -
.
"It has got four wheels and a big engine."
.
and his critique of the Mona Lisa -
.
"A picture of some sheila stuck on the wall".
.
Such eloquence!

Everybody's favourite. The Stern Chaser. And a most interesting day to boot. Going by my formula, the slower smaller boats should have come good towards the end of the day but it was not to be. The Foci seemed to contrive between themselves to hit buoys, banks and boats with monotonous regularity.
.
John Lykke ran through with an average of about third place to take the day. Nicely done John.
.
Bob Tuohy was four points off of John to take second place with the 10 Rater.
.
Grant Murray was having problems getting through to his boat until we shoved a blue Viagra pill into his Orange transmitter and then away he went. Gentlemen come third.
.
Usually Brian Pennifold somehow manages to win these things but he came fourth this time. At least he beat Bob Watson.
.
Poor Bob. Shortly having a wrestling match with John Lykke, which they only just managed to untangle beforetheir division started. Half a lap later Bob's mast went sleepy byes in the water. Bob now has the club record for broken masts. Before the break Bob was two points behind John. Nice nobbling John. Bob moved onto his Focus. It's a pity he had to start on the division he had with his original boat. Thirteenth division start for a Focus. It's in the club records now. Some time in the future they will look back through the history and say 'That Bob Watson must have been a hell of a Focus sailor to be on Div 13 against Marbleheads and 10 Raters'.
.
Graham Alcock and Bob Dare. What can I say? I don't know how many races Bob was winning comfortably only to finish back in the pack. Back of the pack? He hit boats. He rounded the same buoy several times - backwards! And Graham!!! Take a couple of weeks off to go fishing. Have a bit of a sail around the South Pacific and then runs aground twice, IN THE SAME RACE!!! Our pond just ain't big enough for some people.
.
Stern Chaser, you gotta love it.

It was the same to racing as Phyllis Diller is to a Playboy centre-fold. Three sailors and a pile of back seat drivers. We had 60 cents - Bob Tuohy, Bob Watson and Bob Dare - but Bob Dare was a back seater. The odd man out was Brian Pennifold.
.
Bob Watson sailed his Marblehead for a while and then handed it off to see what it looked like when it was being SAILED. He then stepped down to his Focus which he also managed to pass on. It's a tough life being Admiral of a Fleet isn't it Watto.
.
It was a good fun relaxing day.

Hi guys,
.
my e-mail has gone for a burton. I have been sending out e-mails to the club members as a group and suddenly realised that none of them were coming back to me. My IN box has very few entries. I tried sending an e-mail from my own address to the Club address and it didn't get through. I only realised what was happening last Thursday. IINET has been working on it. Until it is sorted I have no idea whether the problem is on my send or receive side.
.
As soon as it is sorted I will try to catch up with the e-mails that I intended to send out.
.
Cheers,
.
Terry
