This was our scheduled Marblehead/10 Rater points day. And the wind, she fairly blew.

We only had a small turn up on the day and it was decided to start everyone off together. As a result we have corrected times for the M/10 fleet and the general fleet.

.

Of the Marbleheads, John Lykke and Bob Watson flew under the conditions. Unfortunately John Lykke had to leave early and only four races were run.

.

Congratulations to John on winning Line Honours AND Corrected Time, both on countback. All other things being equal, the rules say that the winner is decided by the result of the last race. You don't have to be dead to be stiff do you, Bob?

In the general fleet Bob Watson came out on top. Towards the end of the day he was running his C rig which bore a strange resemblance to the two piece bathing costumes that are popular today. Well done Bob.

.

Philip Scapens put up a great struggle with his IOM, finally cracking it for a first in the seventh race.

.

John Lykke just had too many DNS/DNF to get better than third in the fleet. Bad luck John. If racing had been called off at the end of race six you would have been one point behind Philip. If it had ended after race five you'd have been in second place. Life's full of Vesta siuations.

.

Bob Dare tried his IOM before swapping back to the Focus. The IOM doesn't sail too well when it is laying on its' side.

.

One race was enough for Brian. Early in race two he lost his rudder control and Aries worked its' way onto Eastern Island and his rigging played 'cat's in the cradle' with a gum tree. There's something about that end of the dam that eats Brian's rudders.

A consolation win for Philip Scapens. He beat Bob Watson on corrected time. Then again, Philip was sailing off of a corrected time factor that had not been updated for a looooong time. Check your new on Philip and sweat it out for the next time Mr Magoo races. You had managed to slide down to 0.70 somehow.

John Lykke, Bob Dare and Brian Pennifold retained their places from line honours.

The 09 Jun was a utility day due to the Queen's Birthday weekend.

Sailing conditions were fantastic except for the breeze. After the work was done the guys tried to race regardless.

Bob watson took first place in the Marblehead/10 Rater group with an aggregate time of 1 hour 16 minutes 24 seconds for four races. That's an average of 19 minutes per race for what normally takes less than ten minutes. Well done anyway Bob.

Peter White came second, on count back. Well done Peter. Peter's aggregate time was 1 hour 16 minutes 58 seconds.

.

John Lykke's third place was achieved with an aggregate time of 1 hour 17 minutes 13 seconds.

Bob Tuohy likes a bit more breeze.

On corrected time Peter White cleaned the slate, knocking Bob Watson back to second place.

John Lykke and Bob Tuohy retained their positions from the line honours.

In the other fleet Brian Pennifold revelled in the breeze(ish) and came home first. Onya Brian!

Bob Dare did a Bob Watson and changed boats more often than his undies. His supposed "IOM'" got sooky in the windy conditions and turned into a Focus. If you'd sailed the Focus all day you might have beaten Brian.

Geoff Smith was relegated to third place on countback. Bad luck Geoff. Or good luck that Bob had those lousy results at the start when his IOM failed to sail.

Graham Alcock got called away after the first race.

I'm catching up as fast as I can.  I nearly had this one done but the grandkids arrived.

02 June was an A Class day.

Congratulations to David Martin for the good solid performance that put him in first place ahead of Philip Scapens.

.

Brian Pennifold plugged along for a steady third place. His main blot on the copy book was the DNS in race three. This was cause by a turning block that disintegrated towards the end of race two. Race three became a discard while he replaced the block,

.

Steve Rosenberg was, as I recall, beset by a wog and was, in his terms, 'sailing shit'.

.

Another one beset with problems was Bob Watson who had problems with his hand/pocket warmer. He found out that if your transmitter has a whopping big battery with the 9 volt type terminals (as shown below), it is not a good idea to put it in your pocket with your car keys. Bob revived the 70's fashion fad - hot pants. Although it sounds funny, Bob was lucky not to be seriously injured. It was a good warning to everyone, these battery terminals can be dangerous as they are easily shorted out.

After getting re-organised he put in some good results but it was a bit late.

As for me, I was a sailing disaster area. In race one, one of the lines securing the ring for my mainsail sheet failed and the mainsail flapped around like Mrs Murphy's washing. Replaced string, continued sailing, wouldn't call it racing going by the results. In race seven the string acting as the jib boom pivot broke and the jib pivoted around the jib sheet to lay flat back alongside the mainsail. The boat is 30 years old, maybe I should do a preventative maintence on her and replace all of the strings.

What's this? David Martin won on corrected time as well? I'll have to see to this. Well done David.

Well done Steve Rosenberg for getting second place on the podium despite your disability.

Philip Scapens put in a commendable third place effort.

Bob (battery boy) Watson took fourth place from me on countback.

Brian Pennifold took the wooden spoon.

.

.

The rest of the fleet played Rafferty's Rules with a rough division of 'biggies' and Foci sailing a variety of courses.

.

Bob Tuohy was the quickest of the biggies.

.

John Lykke was just a bit behind in second place. Race seven was hampered by a collision and boarding raid by Graham Alcock. Oh dear!

.

Geoff Rice's score would have been better in the 'biggies' had the Foci not been taking places from him. He even managed to beat Bob Tuohy in race five. By about a minute and a half! I think that Bob Tuohy would rather forget race five.

.

Geoff (the fiddler) Smith was the fastest of the Foci. Well done Geoff and keep on fiddling.

.

Graham Alcock only just squeezed in ahead of Bob Dare.

.

Well done all Foci sailors. The Foci fleet has been producing some very close and interesting racing. Thank you to all club members (I can think of about five people) who have assisted by coaching the Foci sailors to bring this about.

I'm pretty sure that racing was called off early due to lack of wind.

Come along this Wednesday and have yourself immortalised on film by a leading sports photographer.

As you are no doubt aware, last Friday was mid-Winter's Day. I hope that everybody checked that their stone circles were correctly aligned. Time for New Year's resolutions.

Following some input from my chief critic and fan, Bob, I have made a New Year's Resolution to keep this web-site up to date.

.

I was unable to do this over the weekend due to overwhelming circumstances, I have had to wait until today (Monday) to start.

.

On Friday night there was the women's Rugby League State of Origin. Bloody NSW won.

.

On Saturday night Tonga played Samoa in the Rugby League Pacific Cup. It was too much of a walkover and so as soon as the Australia versus Ireland Rugby Union Test started I switched over to that. The Irish won the first game of the Test. They won again on Saturday night. Bloody Irish won the Cup.

.

On Sunday night there was the men's Rugby League State of Origin. NSW won the first game of the series. They won again on Saturday night. Bloody NSW won the series.

.

It's a good thing that I'm not a betting man.

We have a few small jobs to do. The main one is to re-locate the pontoon to where the steps are.

.

After that we can do a bit of sailing, or whatever. If you feel like it, bring a fishing rod and we'll have a Carpathon. Prizes for biggest carp, most carp, most inept fisherman.

Sailing conditions were so good that Bob Tuohy and I went gathering fire-wood.

If we had tried to have a Stern Chaser the Division 13 guys would be sitting as close to the start line as the Division 1 guys. Fifteen minutes after the count-down finished.

Bob Watson and Bob Dare tried to go sailing. The winner was the one who pushed his boat hardest from the pontoon.

.

And then Bob Dare had a crisis. His newly acquired IOM was sinking. All turned out well in the end. It wasn't sinking. It was an optical illusion caused by the still water and the curvature of the Earth. I don't know why he got into such a flap.

I couldn't call it racing because that would imply that there was some wind. There wasn't.

.

We had a fair turn out jibbering in the shed.

.

David Hyde had the funniest story ever in the shed. Or we think that it probably was the funniest. David certainly did. He laughed so much that he couldn't get it out. Maybe he will tell it to us some day.

.

A day out for the Marbleheads and 10 Raters.

John Lykke, the quiet achiever, just laid back and carved them up. Nicely done John.

.

Bob Watson didn't break a mast. This is becoming a habit Bob. Be careful because Bob Tuohy was just three points behind.

.

There was some very entertaining sailing between these three. Great to watch.

John Lykke also took out the Corrected Time.........only just.

Bob Watson and Bob Tuohy had the same results as the Line Honours but it was close. Well done Bob Watson, you got there on count-back.

In the fleet Line Honours Graham Alcock made it back to first place. Well done.

Richard (?) from SSS Brisbane sailed Wizzle Wozzle for the first half of the day and I sailed the second half. Technically we can't have a combined race day, but who cares?

Bob Dare sailed well, again. If Wizzle Wozzle wasn't there Bob would have been right on Graham's hammer.

Brian Pennifold chucked in a few first places to prove that you still have to keep an eye on him.

The Richard/Terry team missed by one point. That three pointer in Race Nine was what dunnit. WHO WAS SAILING THEN? Oops it was me.

What happened to Bob Dare? That big Correction Factor that he ran up at the last races really nobbled him. Oh dear.

The new Correction Factors for the whole club. Bob Dare should be a bit more comfortable come the next racing day.
