A Class State Title

Posted by Terry Smith on September 24, 2013 at 8:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Five competitors fought it out for the State Title. This was not enough to make it a ranking meeting, but I expect to get more A Class sailors later on. The A Class yachts presented a great sight on the water (pictures still coming) and were a credit to this magnificent craft.

.

Conditions were just about ideal with a bit of everything for every sailor.

.

OSPREY - Side Winder - Philip whinged (Pommie heritage?) continuously about his "flexing" mast but did not deem it a serious enough problem to stop winning.

.

CONDOR OF PARIS CREEK - Side Winder - David hung around the edges and came in with another second place. He seems to specialise in this when it comes to trophies.

.

NAME? - Venom - Terry borrowed Derek's Venom because he STILL hadn't finished his own A Class. Through his own stupidity he did not pick up that the problem with the main sail was the screw holding the boom onto the gooseneck was working it's way out. After correcting that, at the end of race 4, (with some string) Terry took off to chase Philip down. Again,THROUGH HIS OWN STUPIDITY, Terry let himself down by having the wrong batteries in his transmitter. They started dying during race 8 and while trying to shove new batteries in he bent a battery terminal and finished up with nothing.

.

SHAMROCK - Foo Fighter - Bob had a strange day. Sailing Brian's SHAMROCK at an earlier meeting he acquitted himself quite well against Marbleheads etc. We joked at the time that he was treading on dangerous ground as Brian might swap boats on him if he kept sailing SHAMROCK so well. On this day he got all the bad breaks and came lower down the fleet.

.

ARIES - Side Winder - Brian, sailing Brian's ARIES, trailed Bob in.

.

In all I thought it was an excellent day. Thank you to the competitors and the helpers Graham (scoring and lawns), John (assistant scorer), Roger (chef), Craig (lawns and chef), David (measurer), Derek (Rent A Yacht). I'm sure I've forgotten someone but that is Old Timers Disease, not lack of gratitude.

.

Congratulations Philip and all.

A good turnout for the last Line Honours/Corrected Time for the season. David Martin fairly flew around the course for a well deserved day's win.

Well done Bob for the season's result. You and Roger have until the end of year party to fight out who gets the trophy for the year.

Brian and I will have to vie for the trophy.

I'm having to do a bit of catch up after falling behind on my paperwork.

Since then, the scheduled races have either been blown out or becalmed.

.

I am declaring David Martin to be the Winter Handicap Winner. David and I will have to have a showdown sometime between now and the end of year function to determine who is the Handicap Trophy Winner for 2013.
